The price is live; the rate is mid-market
The coin side of this converter ticks with the same exchange stream as the live prices page. The currency side uses daily mid-market rates — the midpoint between what banks buy and sell at. Nobody trades at mid-market: an exchange’s fiat on-ramp, a card provider or a bank adds a spread, usually 0.5–3%, and sometimes a flat fee. So the number here is the reference; the number on your receipt is the reference minus someone’s margin. Fees and spread are the two words to learn before your first deposit.
Questions people ask
How is the conversion calculated?
Coin price in US dollars from the live exchange stream (Binance, Coinbase as fallback) or, for coins without a live pair, from our CoinGecko-based feed refreshed every minute — multiplied by the US-dollar exchange rate for the currency you chose. Coin-to-coin conversions go through the dollar price of each.
Where do the currency rates come from?
Daily mid-market rates via ExchangeRate-API's open feed (ECB rates through Frankfurter as fallback), cached for a few hours. Mid-market means no spread: the rate a bank or exchange quotes you will differ by its fee.
Why is the number different from my exchange?
Two reasons: your exchange quotes its own order book (see the slippage calculator) and adds a spread or fee on fiat conversion, often 0.5–3%. The converter shows the reference value; the exchange shows what you will actually get.
Can I convert a coin that is not in the list?
Type any symbol Binance lists against USDT — PEPE, for example — and the live stream supplies the price. If no live pair exists you will see a dash rather than a guess.
