What is Dai?

Dai is a decentralised dollar stablecoin created by the MakerDAO (now Sky) protocol. Instead of a company holding dollars, it is backed by crypto and other assets locked in smart contracts as over-collateral, with automatic liquidation if that collateral falls too far.

What to know before trading DAI

A stablecoin is not a trade. It is the cash you hold between trades — the thing to check is the peg (is it trading at $1.00?) and the issuer’s reserves, not a chart. If you are “buying” a stablecoin, you are selling something else.

Whatever the coin, the arithmetic is the same: decide the dollar risk first, place the stop where the idea is wrong, and let the stop-loss calculator turn it into a size. If you are new, Lesson 1 and Lesson 2 come before any chart.

Questions people ask

What is Dai in one sentence?

Dai is a decentralised dollar stablecoin created by the MakerDAO (now Sky) protocol.

Where does the DAI price on this page come from?

It ticks live from a public exchange WebSocket (Binance, Coinbase as fallback) and is backed by our market feed (CoinGecko, refreshed every minute) for market cap, volume and the all-time high.

Is Dai a good investment?

TradingPrimer does not give buy or sell advice. The page shows what Dai is, how it has traded and what risks come with its category; the decision, the size and the exit are yours — and the lessons on position sizing and drawdown are where to start before any of them.

Where can I trade DAI?

On most large exchanges. Our exchanges page compares the venues we use and says which links are referral links.

Prices tick from a public exchange WebSocket; market cap, volume, rank and all-time high from our CoinGecko-based feed (every 60 s); chart candles from Binance spot where a DAI/USDT pair exists. Descriptions are general and deliberately timeless — check the project’s own documentation for current specifics.

Risk reminder: nothing on this page is a recommendation to buy or sell Dai. Most retail traders lose money.
