What is Solana?
Solana is a high-throughput layer-1 launched in 2020 that combines proof-of-stake with a timestamping mechanism (proof of history) to process thousands of transactions a second at very low fees. It hosts a large share of memecoin and consumer DeFi activity; SOL pays fees and is staked to secure the network.
What to know before trading SOL
A layer-1 coin trades on the network’s adoption and on the whole market’s risk appetite. Check where it sits against Bitcoin on the heatmap before crediting a move to the coin itself: most altcoin rallies are Bitcoin rallies with extra leverage.
